SUPERNATURAL SUPERSERIOUS (2022)

I love this R.E.M. song. Not only because it’s just plain fun, with an energetic melodic line and a great groove, but it speaks so keenly to my own high school experience. It’s written as advice to one’s younger self or perhaps a close friend, filled with great compassion for those days when we all assumed people were talking and thinking about us more than they actually were. Even the first line hits me as so true: “Everybody here comes from somewhere / that they would just as soon forget / and disguise.”
