THE FIRST STEP (IS TAKEN ON YOUR OWN) (2019)

I was working at an arts summer camp, wondering how to help these young artists step forward bravely in performance. The risks as a performer often feel incredibly high, and the image of a diver standing on the edge of a diving board immediately sprang to mind. And so I wrote this song to all those facing a leap into the unknown, to remind them (and myself) that all we can do is bring our best efforts and intentions to each moment.
