Album cover thing #2: Guns N' Roses "Use Your Illusion I/II"

I have vivid memories of seeing Terminator 2: Judgement Day with my best friend Michael and his dad when I was a kid. Featured on that soundtrack was GnR's "You Could Be Mine." Still one of my favorite tracks. The radio hits are great, of course, and how can you not love the random reference to "cool ranch dressing" in the middle of "Pretty Tied Up"?

And can we all just agree that GnR's cover of "Live And Let Die" is far and away better than the original?

But Guns n’ Roses also exemplified a level of dangerousness that I was far removed from in my white suburban beach enclave in southern California. They were angry, and violent, and I was thrown and entranced by the whiplash of tender songs like “Sweet Child O’ Mine” or “Patience” and straight up rock tunes like “Mr. Brownstone” or “Locomotive.”

If you want to learn more about GnR and how they sailed to the top and crashed mightily to the bottom, I highly recommend Last of the Giants, a phenomenally reported history of Guns N’ Roses from Mick Wall.
